CASSELTON — Central Cass junior Slayde Stautz returned to the football field for the first time since elementary school this season.
“Some friends of mine who were seniors convinced me to come back and try out with them before they graduated. After this season in football, I’m a much better and much happier of a person than I’ve ever was before," said Stautz.
After taking snaps at football practice this fall, Slayde then would head over to practice for the One Act play where he was one of the lead roles.
“It’s very fulfilling to be able to say you’re not just a musician, or a person who is good at academics, but that you are able to be a part of the sports family and develop there as well," said Stautz.

Slayde’s passion for the arts also shows in speech, even qualifying for state last year.
"I’ve been in theater since I was in fourth grade. So I have done a lot of public speaking stuff, so that comes a little more naturally to me. But I really like to make sure that everybody that I’m around is having a good time and always being the best that they can be," said Stautz.
Slayde likes to stay busy, he also is in band and choir, he’s part of the E-Sports Team at Central Cass, as well as a member of the national honors society.
“It can really change your life for the better. You’re never going to lose anything by at least trying. I think that really shaped the person that I have come to be today because it pushed me a lot towards music and theater, because I found my love and my people through that," said Stautz.
Slayde hopes to one day become a voice actor.
