Jackrabbits race past Fighting Hawks in women's hoops

BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State held the University of North Dakota to under 35% shooting to down the Fighting Hawks 99-64 in Summit League women's basketball Thursday night at Frost Arena.

The Jackrabbits jumped out to an early 26-14 advantage after the first quarter. SDSU didn't look back and held the Fighting Hawks to just 1-for-22 (5%) from 3-point territory.

Julia Fleecs paced the UND squad with 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting. Kacie Borowicz added 11 points, while Jaclyn Jarnot posted nine points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes. UND as a team finished 23-for-72 (32%) from the floor.

Starting forward Paiton Burckhard led SDSU (14-6, 6-0) with 27 points, including a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line. Tylee Irwin recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Tori Nelson (16 points), Tagyn Larson (15) and Megan Bultsma (11) also scored in double figures.

UND (12-6, 3-2 Summit) tips off against North Dakota State at 2 p.m. Sunday in Fargo.
