POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Ellwood Ellenson sank two free throws with one second remaining to lift the Valley City State men’s basketball team to a come-from-behind 65-64 win over Tennessee Wesleyan in the first round of the NAIA Division II national tournament.
Valley City State, seeded No. 6 for the tournament, trailed 62-51 before going on a late-game 14-2 run. The Vikings were led by Darryl Howell’s 21 points and Jayden Ferguson’s 14 points. Valley City State will take a 22-10 record into Friday’s 1:45 p.m. second-round game against Indiana University East.
Tennessee Wesleyan’s season ends with a 28-4 record.
