MINOT, N.D. -- There were smiles and high fives as Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg huddled before the start of Game 4 of their North Dakota Class B state tournament quarterfinal game against Langdon on Thursday.

One would have never guessed the two-time defending Class B champion Patriots were just one game loss from elimination.

But May-Port-C-G still had time to turn things around. So that's just what they did.

After a shaky start, the Patriots finally found their rhythm in Game 4 and slipped past the Region 4 champion Cardinals 2-15, 15-2, 6-15, 15-3, 15-6 at Minot Municipal Auditorium.

"They're definitely one of the toughest teams we've faced," Patriots coach Lindsey Johnsen said. "We knew it wasn't going to be a three-game match."
