Tyler Roehl was not on the small list of free agent signings the Minnesota Vikings announced Monday.

So the former West Fargo High School and North Dakota State standout will keep waiting for that phone call that could give him another shot at the NFL.

"I'll just wait and see what happens," said Roehl, who participated in the Vikings rookie mini-camp last weekend.

What happened on Monday was the Vikings signed two undrafted free agents who also participated in the rookie mini-camp held in Eden Prairie, Minn.

Marquis Hamilton, a 6-foot-3, 222-pound wide receiver from Iowa State was offered a contract. So was Bill Noethlich, a 6-7, 301-pound offensive tackle from Southwest Minnesota State, an NCAA Division II school located in Marshall.

Quarterback Ryan Perrilloux of Jacksonville State was also among the tryout players. But like Roehl, he was signed as of Monday.

"I feel I did as well as I could," said Roehl, who practiced on special teams and with the fullbacks and running backs during mini-camp held Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"It was a great experience and great opportunity. It was good to go against that kind of competition."

Among the backfield competition at rookie mini-camp was second round pick Toby Gerhart of Stanford and Ryan D'Imperio of Rutgers. The Vikings also have returning fullback Naufhu Tahi plus Jeff Dugan, a tight end who is now listed at fullback.

Last weekend marked Roehl's first practice since he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee last summer that prematurely ended his rookie season with the Seattle Seahawks.

"My knee was definitely feeling better," said Roehl, who rushed for 2,512 yards and 34 touchdowns in two seasons at North Dakota State.

Rick Spielman, the Vikings vice president of player personnel, said he and his staff were still evaluating mini-camp participants as of Monday.

"Tyler did a good job throughout the weekend tryout," Spielman said. "He's a guy who loves the game and obviously was a very productive college player. He gave a good accounting of himself and we're going to keep our options open on all of these guys as we go through the spring."

The Vikings are scheduled to being spring practices for both veterans and rookies on May 18.
