Moorhead Blues fall to Osseo in pitchers' duel

The Blues were three-hit in shutout loss at Division I Legion state tournament on Saturday.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Moorhead's Riley Swenson pitched a fine game Saturday but Osseo's Jacob Contreras was almost unbeatable, three-hitting the Blues in a 3-0 victory in the Division I Legion state tournament quarterfinals on Saturday at Dick Putz Field.

Contreras went the distance and struck out nine Blues. He also singled in the game's first run in the third inning and his sacrifice fly in the fifth scored the second run. Matthew Kitzman followed with a ground out that brought home the third run.

Moorhead's Holden Klinnert doubled and Wyatt Tweet and Carson Zimmel had the Blues' other hits. Swenson worked six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out three.

Osseo moved on to play Willmar in the semifinals Saturday.
