It seems like "just yesterday" to Moorhead High School senior Ashley Stenerson that she first slipped on a Spuds sweater and skated with the varsity team as an eighth-grader. And now, the school's all-time leading scorer is headed to her dream destination.

The University of Minnesota women's hockey team announced Wednesday that Stenerson would be among its incoming freshmen class this fall.

Stenerson's signing caps two years of interest between the two sides.

"Growing up in Minnesota, I've always wanted to be a Gopher," said Stenerson, whose older brother, Matt, lives in the Twin Cities. "I love the school. I love the atmosphere. I love the city of Minneapolis."
