Minnesota State Moorhead men's basketball coach Stu Engen is one of 34 candidates who have applied for the head men's basketball coaching job at the University of North Dakota.
Engen has led the Dragons to a 55-58 record since 2002.
A former coach at Upper Iowa and Wisconsin-La Crosse, Engen has 259 wins and 166 losses in his 16-year career.
"I would consider myself a darkhorse," said Engen, who is 2-2 against UND in his career. "Given the resources at the University of North Dakota, with the facilities and scholarships, I'm sure the job will warrant a very good applicant. It's hard not to apply for a job that close to where I'm located that has that type of resources."
Also on the list is UND assistant Randall Herbst, who has earned the recommendation of former coach Rich Glas and current Sioux players. Herbst has been with UND since 2000.

The NCAA Division I assistants who have applied are Toledo's Michael Grant, Michael Jaskulski of Florida State, Iowa's Brian Jones, Kansas State's Ben Kelso and Christopher Hollender of Army.
Other applicants include Winona State assistant Tom Brown; former Concordia-St. Paul head coach Ryan Freeberg; Mark Johnson of Fort Hays State (Kan.); former Texas State assistant Charlie Fenske; former Montana State assistant Scott Carson; Jackson State (Miss.) assistant Arthur Cheers; Augusta State (Ga.) assistant Jay Newberry and former Pratt Community College and American Basketball Association assistant Jan Handley.
Glas resigned last month to become associate head coach at Northern Iowa.
Applications will be taken until the job is filled, according to the UND Human Relations Department. Screening for the job begins May 10.
