North Dakota's strongest men are coming to the Fargo Civic Memorial Auditorium on Saturday.
The 2003 North Dakota's Strongest Man competition is the first such contest in the state. Starting at 10 a.m., participants will compete in the husefell stone, tire flip, atlas stones, power stairs, farmers walk and log press events.
Reese Olson and Jeremy Melting, both of Fargo, are hosting and competing in the event. They have participated in amateur and professional contests in the past.
"I'd like to do this every year if the turnout is OK," Olson said. "My goal is to get the pros here."
Olson said 16 amateurs had signed up by Friday. Others had given verbal commitments so that number is expected to go up.

"Anybody that wants to give it a try is welcome," Olson said. "We'd like to have as many local people as possible."
The top two overall scorers in each weight class (light and heavy) qualify for a national event. The top four at nationals can go pro, like the men seen on ESPN's World's Strongest Man competitions.
Those who are interested should call Olson at (701) 799-6865. Additional information can be found on the Web site www.bestforward.com .
Admission to the competition is $6. Kids under 12 get in free.
