FARGO - National signing day is Wednesday and NDSU football is bearing down on around 20 letters of intent. The latest was cornerback Tre Dempsey from Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Fla.
His head coach, Bill Castle, said the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Dempsey picked NDSU over Coastal Carolina and Albany, two former Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoff teams and two that were nationally ranked this year.
"He had a great year for us," Castle said. "He's one of those athletes who is savvy and has great ball skills."
Lakeland is a premier prep program in Florida having won two USA Today national titles and six Class 5A Florida state championships.
The Bison are one of the final two choices for linebacker Pierre Gee-Tucker from Belleville, Ill. Belleville West head coach Cameron Pettus said it's between NDSU and Northern Iowa. It appears Gee-Tucker would probably be NDSU's last scholarship player for this recruiting class.
