BISMARCK - Kali Olson's left knee still hurts.
Her second state high jump title should make her feel a lot better.
For the first time this outdoor season, the Lisbon senior decided to give her injured left knee a whirl, and she turned it into the Class B state girls high jump crown by clearing 5 feet, 4 inches on Friday at the Community Bowl.
"I wasn't sure how it was going to go, but we decided to switch," Olson said. "This means quite a bit. I wanted that title back."
Olson surprised a lot of people - including herself - when she won the state title as a sophomore, and she finished second last year.

A knee injury at the start of outdoor season sidelined her until the last two meets before the state meet - and she jumped from the opposite side she was used to.
Approaching from the left and jumping off her right knee was the plan for this weekend, too, until Thursday.
"I had a practice (Thursday), and was awful. I couldn't even clear 4-11," Olson said. "We decided to pass until 4-11, and I'd just jump off my left leg until I couldn't go any more."
She went longer than everybody else in the field.
Lisbon's Coykendall
surprises in javelin
Adam Coykendall was hoping for a state title in his final state meet. He got it Friday in maybe the most unlikely event.
The Lisbon senior popped off a throw of 192 feet, 2 inches to win the boys javelin. That didn't just pass his personal best, it left it in the dust.

He was seeded 11th in the event going in, and his winning throw was 26 feet, 3 inches farther than he had ever thrown.
"I felt like I was capable of something like that, but I hadn't gotten everything together," Coykendall said. "I'm more pleased than surprised."
Coykendall said he was worried about his winning throw, which landed less than a foot away from being out of bounds.
"I'm just glad it was in," Coykendall said. "I was hoping to get first in the 4x100 (relay) or the (110) hurdles, but this is pretty good, too."
Coykendall's big toss has Lisbon in a good position after the first day. The Broncos scored 19 points, putting them two points behind leader Parshall's 21.
Another Drevlow
wins javelin crown
Jamie Drevlow followed her brother's advice, and now the North Sargent-Sargent Central senior has followed her brother to the top of the awards stand.

Drevlow won the Class B girls javelin on Friday with a throw of 128-4, to win by nearly five feet.
Drevlow's brother, Ryan, won the event on the boys side last year.
"He taught himself how to throw, and then he taught me," said Jamie Drevlow, who had the state's third-best toss going into the competition. "He's made a huge difference for me."
Drevlow's winning toss came on her first throw of the day. She'll be competing at North Dakota State next year. Her brother is a member of the Bison football team.
Drevlow was also sixth in the shot put on Friday.
Sprints
Benson County's Alyssa Anderson won the 1,600 in 5:10.37 for her first title in the event. The eighth-grader will try and defend her 3,200 title today. ... Griggs County Central's Kali Hook won the girls shot put with a mark of 41-4 ½. It was her second consecutive title in the event. ... Benson County leads the Class B girls team race with 38 points.
