NDSU finishes first in final Gridiron Power Index

FARGO - FCS champions North Dakota State finished No.

FARGO - FCS champions North Dakota State finished No. 1 in the Gridiron Power Index (GPI), an index ranking for the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.

The GPI is a top indicator of at-large playoff selection.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference had five members in the GPI top 25.

Northern Iowa (5), Illinois State (tie 13), Indiana State (18) and Youngstown State (19) each joined the Bison in the Top 25.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference placed first in the GPI's football conference rakings followed by the Great West Conference, Southern Conference and the Colonial Athletic Association respectively.

Sam Houston State, which NDSU defeated 17-6 in the FCS national championship on Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas, finished second in the GPI.
