NDSU loses final game of season

MACOMB, Ill. - After winning four consecutive games at home, the North Dakota State women's soccer team looked to wrap up its season with a road win.

MACOMB, Ill. - After winning four consecutive games at home, the North Dakota State women's soccer team looked to wrap up its season with a road win.

However, two first half goals were too much for the Bison to overcome in their 2-0 loss to Western Illinois on Sunday at MacKenzie Field.

Ashley Hoch scored the Leathernecks' (9-5-3) first goal in the 30th minute.

Kim Schuneman added a goal off a 40-yard free kick in the 42nd minute.

The loss contained bright spot for the Bison though.

Goalkeeper Karli Kopietz broke NDSU's single-season saves record of 98 with three saves. She fininshed the season with 100 saves.

NDSU, which ended its season at 11-5-1, held a 13-9 shot advantage.

FIRST HALF: 1, WIU, Hoch (Rapp) 30:55. 2, WIU, Schuneman (fk) 42:39.

SECOND HALF: No scoring.

SAVES: NDSU, Kopietz 3. WIU, Remes 1, Cowhey 5.
