NDSU's Gray wins Gold, Bronze at Pan American Juniors

SANTIAGO, Chile - North Dakota State freshman wrestler Matthew Gray claimed a gold medal in the 74-kilogram (163 pounds) freestyle division at the Pan American Junior Championships in Santiago on Sunday.

SANTIAGO, Chile - North Dakota State freshman wrestler Matthew Gray claimed a gold medal in the 74-kilogram (163 pounds) freestyle division at the Pan American Junior Championships in Santiago on Sunday.

Gray also earned a bronze medal with a third-place finish in the 74-kilogram Greco-Roman division over the weekend.

In the gold-medal freestyle finals, Gray defeated Jose Pinero of Venezuela, 8-0. Gray's effort helped Team USA to the freestyle team title and a second-place team finish in Greco-Roman.

Gray did not compete for the Bison in the 2012-13 wrestling season, serving a redshirt year as a true freshman. He went 85-2 over his final two seasons at Wilmot (Wis.) High School.
