SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Senior Payton Otterdahl and redshirt freshman Brendan Artley of the North Dakota State track and field team each secured bids to the NCAA Outdoor Championships with their performances Friday at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.
Otterdahl notched a second-place finish in the discus with a throw of 195 feet, 7 inches to advance to his second straight national meet. The two-time indoor national champion will attempt to qualify in the shot put on Saturday.
Artley placed 12th in the javelin with a mark of 221 feet to claim the final qualifying spot.
The Bison men have six athletes scheduled to compete Saturday.
Sophomore Amanda Anderson was the lone Bison participant in women's competition Friday. She concluded her season with a 34th-place finish in the discus with a throw of 160-6.
