NDSU's Sprenkle finishes fifth at NCAA wrestling championships

DES MOINES, Iowa - North Dakota State senior Trent Sprenkle earned a fifth-place finish at 125 pounds during the NCAA Division I wrestling championships Saturday.

DES MOINES, Iowa - North Dakota State senior Trent Sprenkle earned a fifth-place finish at 125 pounds during the NCAA Division I wrestling championships Saturday.

Sprenkle won a 7-2 decision over No. 5 seed Jarrod Garnett of Virginia Tech in the fifth-place match. Sprenkle was pinned by No. 1 Alan Waters of Missouri in the consolation semifinals.

Sprenkle had secured All-America status Friday by clinching at least sixth place.

University of Minnesota wrestler Scott Schiller also finished in fifth place Saturday at 197 pounds. Schiller is from West Fargo.
