CHASKA, Minn. - New York Mills suffered its first loss of the season after losing 1-0 late Thursday night to St. Agnes in the opening round of the Minnesota Class 1A state high school baseball tournament.
St. Agnes scored the game's only run in the fourth inning, and in the most unusual way - on a strikeout, a passed ball, a sacrifice bunt and a balk.
Designated hitter Joe McDonald struck out, but the ball got away from the catcher and he was able to advance all the way to second base. A sacrifice bunt sent him to third.
McDonald then attempted to steal home but was caught dead at the plate. That was until the third-base umpried ruled that Eagles pitcher Adam Snelgrove had balked on the pitch.
St. Agnes pitcher Jack Fossand struck out 12 New York Mills batters and walked only one. Snelgrove struck out nine batters and gave up only three hits in six innings of work.

New York Mills takes a 23-1 record into today's 12:30 p.m. consolation-round game against BOLD (22-5). St. Agnes (21-6) plays a 2:30 p.m. semifinal game today against Blackduck (23-3).
