FARGO-Fargo North-South senior goalie Hannah Sivertson didn't let late-game heroics from the West Fargo Packers rattle her, and after giving up a third-period goal with 47.2 seconds left, she came up huge for her team in overtime and a shootout.
No. 3 Fargo North-South defeated No. 2 West Fargo 2-1 in a girls hockey shootout at the John E. Carlson Coliseum on Tuesday.
"That was my first shootout of the season," Sivertson said. "I try to just keep it as calm as the rest of the game, I know we do shootouts in practice so I just tried to keep the same set of mind I have during practice."
Sivertson's first save in the shootout came against the top goal scorer in the state, junior Janey Sandoval. She followed up with a save against sophomore Courtney Walsh, who scored the Packers' (12-3) only regulation goal earlier in the game.
Prior to the shootout, Sivertson made nine saves in the crucial overtime period, as West Fargo dominated North-South unlike the rest of the game. North-South (10-7) managed to get just one shot on net against the Packers in the overtime period.

"We gotta start like that. In the first period, we didn't play very well, and we didn't come out and pressure like we wanted to," Packers head coach Pat Johnson said. "We didn't play a good defensive game taking over the middle, and when we did that in overtime and toward the end of the third, all of the sudden we start taking away their shot opportunities."
The Packers had several chances in overtime to score, but Sivertson and the North-South defense were able to survive the Packers offensive blitz.
"Sometimes the goaltender has gotta come up big, and Hannah Sivertson played a great game tonight and came up big in a lot of different situations," North-South head coach Kris Dougherty said. "She's a steady competitor, she doesn't get rattled, she doesn't get down on herself and she showed tonight what a senior goaltender ... can do for a team."
West Fargo freshman goaltender Brooklyn Myrvik also had a good night in net. Myrvik made 32 saves, and the only goal that slipped past her was a power-play goal in the middle of the second period.
After a miss by Anna Erickson in the shootout, Rachel Johnson was able to respond for North-South. West Fargo's Gillian Sauter followed up with a goal to even it up. After two more misses, it came down to Myrvik versus junior Sami Trana, who pulled a quick move and put it past the Packers goalie.
Both teams started out the first period slow, with both teams failing to score. In the second period, the Packers and North-South both came alive offensively, but North-South capitalized on a powerplay with a goal by sophomore Graysen Myers.
