OMAHA, Neb. — Omaha took a three-goal lead early in the third period and answered when Fargo attempted to rally in a 5-2 Lancers win in the opening game of the USHL's Clark Cup Playoffs on Monday before 948 at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.
Omaha will host the Force in the second game of the best-of-three first round series at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 26.
Omaha's Morgan Winter scored a first period goal and Nate Benoit made it 2-0 with a goal late in the second period. The Lancers' Jared Wright scored on the power play at 1:45 of the third for a three-goal margin.
Fargo's Trevor Griebel broke the shutout with a goal at 4:53 of the third period on assists from J.P. Turner and Thomas Weis. But Omaha's Cam Mitchell scored on the power play less than a minute later to restore the three-goal lead.
The Force again mounted an effort to climb back into the game when Weis scored on an assist from Griebel at 11:08 of the third. But that was all the Lancers would allow and Vincent Salice iced it with an empty net goal at 18:18 of the third.
