STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State officials disputed reports Sunday that a decision has been made on the fate of the Joe Paterno statue on campus.

A report that the university board of trustees voted not to remove the statue of the former football coach sparked messages from the public and a response from the university.

Penn State spokesman David La Torre said that such a decision has not been made.

"Contrary to various reports, neither the board of trustees nor university administration has taken a vote or made a decision regarding the Joe Paterno statue at Beaver Stadium," La Torre said in a statement.

Asked Friday at the trustees meeting about removing the statue in light of the Freeh report, Chairwoman Karen Peetz said the issue "is a sensitive one. It's going to take a lot of dialogue with the community."
