EXCELSIOR, Minn. -- Fargo pitcher Brett Gustafson allowed just a one-out hit in the first inning as Post 2 beat Burnsville 5-0 before dropping a 10-2 contest to St. Louis Park Friday at the Gopher Classic.
"He was working high in the strike zone, surprisingly, but he got a lot of flyouts and stayed ahead in the counts," Post 2 manager Bill Ibach said.
Gustafson, who had one walk and one strikeout, retired seven batters in a row twice.
"That's kind of his game to mix it up. He's not really a strikeout pitcher. He got the ball up a bit but he moved it around quite a bit."
Nate Pederson went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs on a two-out hit in the first inning. Doug Slyvester, the losing pitcher in the second game, went 2-for-3.

Tom Linster finished 2-for-4 in the second game against St. Louis Park.
Fargo plays Omaha Roncalli today at 11 a.m. It'll play two more games Sunday to try to advance into the playoff rounds of the 48-team tournament.
