FARGO - So here's a question that's probably been bouncing around south Fargo: What exactly is that blue-roofed building near Scheels Arena?

If Sanford has its way, it could be the next big thing in athletic training.

The building will be known as the POWER Center, and the goal is to be the one-stop-shop for any area athlete.

The center's primary focus will be for athletes looking to do anything from rehabbing from an injury to getting better at performances.

It'll also be the latest sports-focused structure in the Urban Plains Development.

With Scheels Arena already established, Sanford is continuing to stake its claim by building the POWER Center and by entering a joint venture with the YMCA to create Family Wellness, a wellness center.

Sanford, according to its website, already has one POWER center that exists in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The facility, according to a Sanford fact sheet, will be a 20,000-square foot facility that will offer 25 yards of artificial turf, four 40-yard running lanes, a half basketball court, weight-lifting equipment and a hockey treadmill.

It will also offer physical therapy with private treatment rooms.

The facility costs $2.5 million to build, according to the fact sheet.
