Boys basketball: Moorhead to face Wayzata in Class 4A state quarterfinals

The Section 8-4A champion Spuds play the Trojans at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the Target Center.

MOORHEAD — The Section 8-4A champion Moorhead Spuds play Wayzata in the Class 4A state quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
The Spuds won the section title 53-52 over Brainerd on Wednesday.
The 17-12 Spuds were the No. 6 seed in the eight-team section and defeated Bemidji and Rogers to reach the title game.
Wayzata is the No. 3 seed in the Class 4A tournament and is 25-4. The Trojans won the Section 6-4A championship 77-55 over Minneapolis South on Tuesday. Wayzata defeated Minneapolis Washburn and Robbinsdale Armstrong to reach the 6-4A championship game.
The winner between the Spuds and Trojans will play either unseeded Cretin-Derham Hall or No. 2 seed Owatonna. Those teams play at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 22. The semifinals game is 8 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at Williams Arena.
In the other quarterfinals games, unseeded Andover plays top-seed Park Center at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, and No. 5 seed Eden Prairie plays No. 4 Eastview at noon Tuesday, March 22. The two winners meet in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at Williams Arena.
