WEST FARGO — West Fargo Sheyenne's Vaughn Raimo defended his title in the 100 yard butterfly and added the 100 backstroke championship to his resume at the North Dakota Boys Swimming and Diving State Meet on Saturday at the Hulbert Aquatic Center.
Fargo Davies' Conner Harr won the 100 breaststroke championship and Sheyenne's 200 medley relay team narrowly edged Fargo Davies for the title.
Raimo won the butterfly in 51.79 seconds, ahead of Minot’s Ryan Hubbard, who placed second in 52.40 and Hubbard’s teammate Jaxon Reinke, who placed third in 52.70.
Raimo swam 52.97 to win the backstroke. Minot’s Peyton Bartsch was second in 53.53 and Bismarck’s Blake Nelson was third in 55.09.
Harr was the only swimmer to best the one minute mark in the breaststroke, winning in 57.94. Minot’s Oliver Roongin was second in 1:00.26 and
Logan Bjerke of Grand Forks was third in 1:00.63.

West Fargo Sheyenne’s 200 medley relay team placed first in 1:38.46, touching a finger tip ahead of Fargo Davies, which finished in 1:38.48. Sheyenne entered with a 1:45.02 seed time, which was fifth-best among the top eight teams.
Other top Fargo metro area finishers were Davies’ Tavian Nelson, who was third in the 200 freestyle, and Fargo South’s Tristan Quibell, who was third in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle. Sheyenne’s Tanner Haag was fourth in the 50 free. West Fargo’s Thomas Doyel was fourth in the 100 freestyle and Haag placed fifth
South’s Oscar Francis placed third in 1-meter diving and Davies’ Aiden Hoff was fifth.
Fargo North’s Haydn Vein was fourth in the 200 individual medley. Davies’ Joe Carlson placed fifth in the 100 backstroke.
Sheyenne placed second in the 400 freestyle relay and South was third behind winner Minot. South was fourth and West Fargo was fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.
Raimo, Harr, Doyel, Francis, Haag, Nelson, Quibell and Davies’ Ryder Myers were named first team All-State. Vein, West Fargo’s Brody Engelstad, South’s Drew Heckaman and Sheyenne’s Zack May were named second team All-State.
Minot’s Grant Schaeffer, who repeated as champion in the 200 freestyle and also won the 100 free, was named the outstanding senior athlete. Minot’s Jake Solper was named coach of the year.
