Valley City 8, West Fargo 3
WEST FARGO — A second-inning surge propelled No. 8 seed Valley City to an upset victory over top seed West Fargo on Tuesday in the East Region baseball tournament quarterfinals.
The Packers held a 2-1 lead after the first inning, but Valley City brought home six runs in the top of the second to forge ahead.
Adam Bitz went 3 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Hi-Liners. Gavin Gerhardt had a hit and two RBIs, while Broden Muske and Joe Cummings each had two hits and one RBI.
Jaden Grefsrud finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs to pace West Fargo. Griffin Staahl was 1 for 1 with two runs scored. Matt Heupul finished 1 of 4 with an RBI.
Valley City (7-8) advanced to play No. 5 seed Wahpeton in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday at Kraft Field in Grand Forks. The Packers (13-4) will play Grand Forks Red River at 11 a.m. Friday in an elimination game at Kraft Field.

WF Sheyenne 2, GF Central 1
WEST FARGO — No. 2 seed West Fargo Sheyenne edged No. 7 seed Grand Forks Central to advance to the tournament semifinals.
Sheyenne pitcher Brennan Haman went the distance to earn the win and finished 2 for 2 at the plate. Tate Gustafson went 1 of 2 with a walk for the Mustangs’ lone other hit.
Sheyenne (13-7) is slated to play Fargo North in the semifinals Friday at Kraft Field, 30 minutes after the 4 p.m. semifinal game concludes. GFC (5-11) will face Fargo Shanley in an elimination game at Kraft Field, 30 minutes after the 11 a.m. elimination game ends.
Fargo North 2, Fargo Shanley 1
FARGO — No. 6 seed Fargo North scored late to upset No. 3 seed Fargo Shanley.
North’s Will Bachman hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to give the Spartans a 2-1 advantage.
Brady Manly had a team-high two hits and a run scored for North. Danny Boutain also scored a run. Spartans starting pitcher Kaden Kvidera gave up one run on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
Tommy Simon finished 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Deacons. Landon Meier tacked on two hits. Shanley starting pitcher Jordan Leininger went the distance. He surrendered two runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.
North (13-8) advanced to play West Fargo Sheyenne in the semifinals Friday at Kraft Field, 30 minutes after the 4 p.m. semifinal game concludes. Shanley (12-6) will play Grand Forks Central in an elimination game at Kraft Field, 30 minutes after the 11 a.m. elimination game ends.
