Five Spuds Nordic skiers qualify for state during Section 8A meet

Moorhead will send three individual skiers and a relay team to the state meet Feb. 16-17 at Giants Ridge.

CALLAWAY, Minn. — Five Moorhead Nordic skiers qualified for the Minnesota state meet during the Section 8A meet Wednesday at Maplelag Resort.
The state meet is Feb. 16-17 at the Giants Ridge Golf and Ski Resort in Biwabik, Minn.
The Spuds' Zaine Braaten placed second overall in the boys section meet with combined Classic and Freestyle times of 28 minutes, 13.1 seconds, trailing only section champion Connor Grant of Little Falls (28:05.0).
Moorhead's Max Rogers earned a state berth with an eighth-place finish in 30:11.3
The Spuds' Kennedy Olson placed sixth the girls meet in 34:53.3 to qualify. Liliana Schaefer of Brainerd won the championship in 33:07.3.
The Spuds' relay team of Siri Overturf and Jamie Raske earned a state berth with a second-place finish in 18:47.0. Bemidji's Anna Renn and Ella Simula placed first in 18:45.6.
The Moorhead boys team finished third with 365 points, placing behind champion Little Falls (381) and second-place Brainerd (375).
The Spuds girls team placed fourth with 361 points. Brainerd won the meet with 384.
