WEST FARGO — West Fargo Sheyenne defeated West Fargo in four sets to claim the East Region championship on Saturday at West Fargo High School.
Both teams qualify for next week's state meet and Fargo North and Fargo South earned state spots with four-set wins in state qualifier matches on Saturday.
Sheyenne dropped the third set against West Fargo but rebounded in the fourth set and defeated the Packers 25-14, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17.
Fargo South bested Fargo Davies 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-11 in Saturday's first state qualifier.
South's Emma Dalby, who surpassed 1,000 career kills on Friday, padded her numbers with 20 kills on Saturday. She also had three blocks. She was named the Eastern Dakota Conference's Senior Player of the Year.
Gen Gard finished with 19 kills and 14 digs, and Alivia Abel had nine kills. Teigan Malo had eight kills and a block. Setter Maddie Jackson had 55 set assists and joined Gard and Dalby on the All-Eastern Dakota Conference team.
South's Nina Majetich had 16 digs and served three aces, and Marissa Wachala had 15 digs.
Fargo North earned a spot in the state tournament by shaking off a subpar first set and defeating Grand Forks Red River 13-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-19.
Solei Berg led North with 15 kills and she also had 11 digs and 1-1/2 blocks. Reagan Carlson had 14 kills and Haidyn Tollefson had eight kills and 2-1/2 blocks.
Setter Betsy Schiltz had 33 assists and 10 digs, and Evy Berg had 31 digs and three assists. Anna Nelson had two blocks and Grace Holm served an ace.
