FARGO — Kindred’s Trey Heinrich was named the 11B Senior Athlete of the Year Friday morning following the conclusion of the 11B state championship between Central Cass and Velva-Drake-Anamoose-Garrison at Dakota Bowl XXX at the Fargodome.

The award has been a goal Heinrich had worked for for quite some time, he said. Now, it is a reality.

“It means a lot,” Heinrich said. “I’ve worked my whole career for this. At the end of last year, my coach said ‘a big goal for you should be to win senior of the year.' I’m just so happy to be able to make my family and community proud.”

Heinrich added his appreciation for his fellow Vikings and coaching staff.

“I could not have done it without my teammates and my coaches,” he said. “It means a lot.”

One of the highlights of Heinrich’s senior year on the field came in a week seven rivalry game against eventual state runner-up Central Cass.

In that game. Heinirch ran for 201 yards and all four of the Vikings touchdowns that night. He also intercepted a pass.

Kindred was defeated in the state quarterfinals by Central Cass with Heinirich scoring the only Vikings’ touchdown of that game.
