Men's hockey: Four goal surge lifts Cobbers to win over St. Olaf

Concordia scored four straight goals in the first and second periods and rolled to a win over the Oles in an MIAC game on Friday.

MOORHEAD — Concordia scored four straight goals in the first and second period and the Cobbers rolled to a third-straight win with a 5-2 victory over St. Olaf on Friday at the Moorhead Sports Center.

The Oles' Noah Heisler scored the game's first goal early in the first period but Concordia's Bauer Berry tied it with a goal at 10:36 of the first on an assist from Cole O'Connell. The Cobbers took the lead for good when Joe Harguindeguy scored on the power play with just 20 seconds left in the first on assists from Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe and Kevin Ness.

Concordia's Jacen Bracko made it 3-1 with a goal at 14:10 of the second period on an assist from Cole Thompson, and Caden Triggs made it a three-goal lead at 16:56 of the second on assists from Cole Lehmann and Bracko.

St. Olaf's Matthew Pointer scored a power play goal at 6:12 of the third but Henkemeyer-Howe squashed any Ole hopes of a comeback with a goal at 13:19 on assists from Troy Dahlheimer and Braden Costello.

Concordia outshot the Oles 32-16 and Cobber goalie Matthew Fitzgerald stopped 14 shots.

The Cobbers and Oles play the second game of a weekend series at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Sports Center.
