Wahpeton 5-8, Fargo North 4-3

WAHPETON — The Wahpeton Huskies made quick work of the Fargo North Spartans in Saturday’s doubleheader.

After trailing most of the first game, the Huskies pieced together a four-run sixth inning and shut down the Spartans in the seventh to claim the win.

The Huskies’ Gavin Schroeder was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Braxton Pauly was 1 for 3 with two RBI and Riley Thimjon was 1 for 2. Wahpeton pitchers allowed three earned runs on six hits and struck out eight.

North’s Charlie Kalbrenner knocked in two runners in a 3 for 4 afternoon. Levi Sveet was 1 for 1 with three walks and Connor Holm was 1 for 2 with two walks. Zach LaMont tossed 5-⅓ innings and struck out nine.

In game two, an eight-run third inning paved the way for Wahpeton. The Huskies’ Nick Langenwalter homered in a 2 for 2, two RBI performance. Cooper Klosterman was 1 for 2 with a double and three RBI. Schroeder was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Wahpeton’s pitching staff allowed one earned run on five hits and struck out three.

North’s Kalbrener doubled twice and Sveet ended 1 for 2 with a walk and an RBI.

The doubleheader marked the end of the regular season for both teams. Both teams will play in the EDC tournament beginning on Tuesday, May 23.

Valley City 8, Fargo Davies 2

FARGO — The Valley City Hi-Liners grabbed a six-run lead after two innings and sprinted past the Fargo Davies Eagles to the finish line.

The Eagles were plagued by four defensive errors. Valley City had six hits and Davies had three.

The Hi-Liiners’ Bryson Heck was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Gavin Gerhardt homered and walked. Max Mehus worked 6-2/3, allowing one earned run with 11 strikeouts. He also was 2 for 4.

Davies’ Grant Matter and Jaxon Beiswenger both doubled. Brady Haiskanen was 1 for 2 with a walk. The Eagles allowed four earned runs on the mound with 10 strikeouts.

Andover 8-10, Moorhead 0-4

MOORHEAD — Andover was too strong for the Spuds in a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the first game, the Huskies’ Colin Anderson and Bryce Schrepfer combined on a four-hitter. Anderson allowed three hits in five innings to get the win. He walked two and struck out five. Schrepfer went the last two innings, allowing a hit and striking out one.

In game two, Andover pulled away after the teams played two scoreless innings. M Eckes was 2 for 3 and drove in four runs.

The Spuds’ Tyden Bergeson was 2 for 3 and scored two runs and Aaron Reierson and D Kunza had hits and drove in runs.

Central Cass 6, Oak Grove 2

ENDERLIN — The Central Cass Squirrels topped the Oak Grove Grovers in the second round of the Region 1 playoffs.

The Squirrels scored four runs in the second inning and scratched single runs across in the fourth and fifth. The Grovers were shaky defensively, committing five errors.

Logan Braaten was 3 for 4 with two RBI. Brayden Mitchell was 1 for 3 with a walk and Eli Buhr was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Jaxon Parker picked up the win on the mound. He allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out 12.

Oak Grove’s Trey Hatfield drove in both runs in and was 1 for 4. Jacob Ring and Kameron Liebl both were 1 for 3 with walks. Grovers pitchers allowed one earned run and eight hits.

Oak Grove plays the winner of the Kindred/Northern Cass game at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 22. Central Cass will play the winner of that game at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 22.

Softball

Fargo North 13, WF Horace 1 (F/5 inn.)

HORACE — Fargo North put up big numbers in a five-inning road win over West Fargo Horace on Saturday.

Girls soccer

Fargo Shanley 5, GF Red River 0

FARGO — The Fargo Shanley Deacons dominated the Grand Forks Red River Roughriders on Saturday afternoon.

The Deacons’ Molly Flaherty notched a hat trick to lead her team. Flaherty scored the first two goals of the contest with assists from Emma Rohrich and Mia Metzger. She also buried the last goal of the game.

Ella Frisk buried a goal for Shanley off a pass from Mia Metzger. Frisk and Metzger each collected two assists. Lindsey Astrup also scored for the Deacons in the second half.

Shanley goalkeeper Ashland Roach stopped five shots and the Roughriders’ Eden Parkinson saved five.

West Fargo Sheyenne 5, Fargo South 1

FARGO — West Fargo Sheyenne defeated Fargo South in an EDC matchup on Saturday.
