Nordic skiing: Moorhead's Zaine Braaten earns victory at Detroit Lakes Invite

A trio of Spuds finished 4-5-6 to lead the team on the girls side.

CALLAWAY, Minn. — Zaine Braaten captured the top spot Thursday at the Detroit Lakes Invite at Maplelag Resort to headline the Moorhead Nordic skiing team's performance.

Braaten completed the course in 28 minutes, 14.6 seconds for first place in the boys race. Teammate Max Rogers finished 10th in 30:56.7 and Nate Helgeson was 22nd in 32:41.9. The Spuds boys finished third as a team with 346 points. Brainerd was first with 382.

A trio of Spuds finished 4-5-6 to lead the team on the girls side. Abbie Ishaug clinched fourth place with a time of 34:39.6 and Kennedy Olson followed with a fifth-place finish in 34:43.0. Ava Nelson finished sixth in 35:15.4. The Spuds girls took the runner-up spot with 374 points, seven behind first-place Brainerd (381).
