WEST FARGO — No. 1-ranked West Fargo Sheyenne, the defending North Dakota Class 11AA state football champions, scored the game's first 28 points to power to a 35-14 home victory against Bismarck Legacy on Friday night at Essentia Health Mustang Stadium.
The game was the regular-season opener for both Sheyenne and Legacy on a rainy night in West Fargo.
West Fargo running back Max Pfau scored on a 1-yard TD run in the second quarter as the Packers scored a 7-6 home victory against No. 2-ranked Bismarck Century at Essentia Health Packer Stadium. Century scored on a Kyan Barth-to-Ryan Brynjolfson 58-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, but the Patriots muffed the extra point.
Pfau's run and the ensuing extra point gave the Packers a 7-6 lead early in the second quarter. Neither team scored in the second half as the Packers sprung the upset in the season opener for both teams.
