Prep baseball: Shanley, Sheyenne split EDC doubleheader

West Fargo Sheyenne scored all its runs in one inning and took Game 1 but the Deacons rebounded with Sam Ovsak and Landon Meier combining on a no-hitter in Game 2 to earn a split Wednesday.

FARGO — West Fargo Sheyenne made efficient use of five hits to defeat Fargo Shanley in the first game but the Deacons rebounded behind a combined no-hitter to take the second game of an Eastern Dakota Conference doubleheader on Wednesday.

Sheyenne took the opener 4-2 but the Deacons rode a combined no-hitter by Sam Ovsak and Landon Meier to a 4-0 victory in Game 2.

In the opener, Sheyenne trailed by one in the fourth but scored all its runs in the inning. Konner Entz singled in a run, Grant Warkenthein doubled in two runs and James Hagen drove in a fourth run on a ground out.

Casey Clemenson made the lead stand, working all seven innings and allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out nine.

Shanley's Meier had two hits and drove in a run, Tommy Simon had a hit and an RBI and Isaac Emineth doubled and tripled.

In Game 2, Ovsak started and went two innings, walking three and striking out three. Meier went the final three, striking out two.

Shanley's Josh Biver had a double among his two hits, Jordan Leininger and Simon both had hits and RBIs, and Meier and Adam Leininger both drove in runs.

Sheyenne is 5-2 in the EDC and 8-7 overall and Shanley is 3-1 in the conference and 7-3 overall.

Sheyenne plays at Grand Forks Central at 5 p.m. Thursday while Shanley plays a doubleheader at West Fargo on Thursday. Game times are 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
