Prep basketball: Fargo Davies opens with win over Grand Forks Central

Boys

Fargo Davies 68, GF Central 42

GRAND FORKS — Dan Yorke had 19 points, six rebounds and five assists to lead the Eagles to a win over Grand Forks Central in both team’s season-opener on Tuesday.

Davies’ Raymond Brown had 18 points, seven rebounds and five steals, and Jaxon Beiswenger finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Central’s Cole Wilber scored 12 points and Erick Payne had 10 points.

Davies is 1-0 in the EDC and overall. Central is 0-1 in the EDC and overall.

Wahpeton 96, WF Horace 85

HORACE — Wahpeton outlasted West Fargo Horace in a high-scoring EDC matchup on Tuesday.

Horace’s Zay Williams scored 27 points, Carter Evanson scored 18 points, Brady Westphal scored 13 points and Mike Siffoi had 12 points. Carvin Fish had eight points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Wahpeton’s Caden Hockert and Caden Kappes both scored 19 points, Jayden King scored 18 points and Ethan Manock had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Wahpeton is 1-0 in the EDC and overall. Horace is 0-1 in the EDC and overall.

GF Red River 77, Fargo Shanley 65

FARGO — Reis Rowekamp scored a game-high 34 points and Grand Forks Red River opened its season with an EDC win over Shanley on Tuesday.

Red River’s Zac Kraft scored 24 points.

Connor Kraft led Shanley with 22 points and seven rebounds. Alex Wheelock scored 16 points and Vuciri Hakim had 14 points and six rebounds.

Red River is 1-0 in the EDC and overall. Shanley is 0-1 in the EDC and 1-1 overall.

Moorhead 88, West Fargo 84

WEST FARGO — Moorhead held off West Fargo in a high-scoring game on Tuesday.

West Fargo’s Payton McGregor’s basket with 1:32 to play cut the Spuds’ lead to three points, but Moorhead’s DJ Smith and Colton Hagen both hit two free throws in the final 14 seconds to blunt any late drama.

Adam Jenkins led the Spuds with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Dylan Zimmerman scored 19 points, Hagen scored 18 and Smith had 10 points and five rebounds. Hagen and Smith both had five assists and Hagen also had four steals.

West Fargo’s Nick Parries scored 25 points, McGregor scored 18 points, Tony Leal had 13 points and 10 rebounds, Max Shell scored 11 and Isaac Fitz scored 10.

Moorhead is 1-1 overall. West Fargo is 1-0 overall.

Fargo North 69, Fargo South 56

FARGO — Jeremiah Sem had 33 and eight rebounds as North defeated South in both teams’ EDC opener on Tuesday.

North’s Carter Zeller had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

South’s James Hamilton had a team-high 16 points, Reis Kessel had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Dean Grant scored 11 points.

South is 0-1 in the EDC and overall. North is 1-0 in the EDC and 1-1 overall.

Girls

Fargo North 81, Fargo South 31

FARGO — Balanced scoring helped North defeat South in the teams’ EDC opener on Tuesday.

Sienna Swanson had a team-high 20 points for North. Arden Faulkner scored 19 points, Olivia Hammes scored 17 and Grayce Anderson has 11 points and six rebounds.

South’s Talyn Hoffert scored 11 points and Teigan Malo had five points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

South is 0-1 in the EDC and 0-2 overall. North is 1-0 in the EDC and 1-1 overall.

West Fargo 80, Moorhead 44

WEST FARGO — Solveig Seymour and Chloe Pfau combined for 50 points in the Packers’ win over the Spuds on Tuesday.

Seymour hit nine 3-pointers and finished with 27 points. Pfau scored 23 points, Miriley Simon and Brylie Peterson both scored 12 points and Peterson also had nine steals.

The Spuds’ Anna Nelson had 12 points and Julia McAdams scored 10 points.

Moorhead is 1-1 overall and West Fargo is 1-1 overall.

GF Red River 79, Fargo Shanley 42

FARGO — Jocelyn Schiller scored 36 points to lead Grand Forks Red River over Fargo Shanley on Tuesday.

Shanley’s Maggie Shorma scored 12 points and Mesiku Hakim and Seely Stockmoe both scored 10 points.

Red River is 1-0 in the EDC and overall. Shanley is 0-1 in the EDC and 1-1 overall.

Wahpeton 76, WF Horace 67

WAHPETON — Scout Woods finished with 19 points, nine rebounds and seven steals on Wahpeton’s EDC win over West Fargo Horace on Tuesday.

Wahpeton’s Emma Bontjes had 18 points and six rebounds and Halle Miller had 15 points and seven boards.

Lakyn Donnelly led Horace with 14 points and Jaiden Haile had a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Ava Wittrock scored nine points.

Horace is 0-1 in the EDC and overall. Wahpeton is 1-0 in the EDC and overall.

Fargo Davies 91, GF Central 53

FARGO — Ashton Safranski had 26 points, nine rebounds and six steals to lead Davies to an EDC win over Grand Forks Central on Tuesday.

The Eagles’ Karley Franks had 15 points, five rebounds and four steals and Ashley Wacha and Fallon Passanante both scored 12 points. Mariah Burian scored nine points and Maci Wheeldon scored eight points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.

Central is 0-1 in the EDC and 0-2 overall. Davies is 1-0 in the EDC and overall.

Sargent County 70, Oak Grove 49

FARGO — Sargent County defeated Fargo Oak Grove on Tuesday.

Oak Grove’s Mckenna McIlone scored a team-high 13 points, Mari Bolme scored eight and Hailey Neumann scored seven points.

Park Christian 54, Ada-Borup 43

ADA — Moorhead Park Christian defeated Ada-Borup on Tuesday.

Park Christian’s Avery Aakre scored 19 points, Libby Suckert scored 16 points and Ellie Rogness finished with eight points and Malayna Syverson scored nine.

Morgan Smart led Ada-Borup with 11 points.

Park Christian is 3-1 overall and Ada-Borup is 0-3 overall.
