Red River boys come back from an 18-point deficit to defeat Davies in the Class A state semifinals

RED RIVER OUTLASTS DAVIES TO ADVANCE TO FIRST STATE TITLE GAME IN MORE THAN A DECADE

FARGO — Red River went into the semifinal as the #3 seed, taking on the EDC Champion, Davies. In the first half, Red River was down four points, but a wide open Zachary Kraft drained the three to make it a one point game. Davies went on a run, building a lead as large as 18 points. The Roughriders cut it down to 10 points in the second half, but Davies’ Jaxon Beiswenger hit back to back threes to extend the lead to 13. The Roughriders showed no quit with one minute to go. Kraft drove to the basket, got the bucket and the foul for the three point play to take the lead for the final time. Red River wins 82-80, and will play for a state championship for the first time since 2012.

SPARTANS’ SEM SHINES IN COMEBACK WIN AGAINST CENTURY FOR A STATE TITLE BERTH 

FARGO — EDC runner up North took on unbeaten WDA champion Century. This semifinal match-up saw momentum swings in the direction of both teams. In the second half, Century was leading by six points when Isaiah Schafer made it nine points when he hit the pull up jumper for three points. North would heat up as Jeremiah Sem decided to take matters into his own hands. He drove and finished with one of his signature dunks. He went on to score six straight points and shifted things back in favor of the Spartans. The game found itself tied with less than three minutes left, when Jeremiah passed to little brother Matthew Sem, and he got the pretty lay-in to put North out front for good.
Spartans win 51-48 and will play for a title for the first time since winning back in 2006.

BISMARCK CENTURY DOMINATES SHEYENNE TO ADVANCE TO THE GIRLS CLASS A CHAMPIONSHIP

FARGO — The number one seed from the East, Sheyenne, faced off against the number two seed from the West, Bismarck Century, in the Class A semifinals. The Patriots led the Mustangs all game long. Dominant beyond the arc was Logan Nissley. She hit five three pointers on her way to 16 points. Century advances to the title game with the 65-47 win over Sheyenne.

RED RIVER'S JOCELYN SCHILLER LED THE WAY TO THE GIRLS CLASS A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, BEATING THE WEST FARGO PACKERS

FARGO — EDC powerhouses, West Fargo and Red River, squared off in the semifinals. Red River with a four-point lead in the second half, Jocelyn Schiller extended it to seven with three of her 26 points on the day. Red River won 51-44, and is heading back to the state championship for the first time since 1992.
