Recapping Saturday's local prep hockey, starting with a Moorhead Spuds overtime win.
Moorhead 4, Lakeville North 3
MOORHEAD — The Spuds took down Lakeville North in overtime Saturday at Moorhead Sports Center.
The Spuds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period. Carson Triggs found the back of the net just 13 seconds into the game on assists from Harper Bentz and Gavin Lindberg. Bentz then buried a shorthanded goal, assisted by Lindberg, to make it 2-0. Wyatt Tweet scored his first career goal for the Spuds at about the 11-minute mark on an assist from Joe Gramer to make it 3-0.
Lakeville North came clawing back, starting with a Ryan Brodin goal late in the first. Luke Jech scored on a power play early in the second period and Chase Camilli found the back of the net at 5:02 of the third period to force OT.
In the extra frame, Moorhead’s Joe Schiller scored the game-winner at the 1:57 mark.
Spuds goalie Kai Weigel recorded 21 saves.
Moorhead improved to 2-2 overall, while Lakeville North fell to 0-1.
Fargo Davies 4, Bismarck Century 0
BISMARCK — Barron Stibbe led Davies to a shutout win over Century in nonconference action.
Stibbe tallied a hat trick to pace the Davies offense. Eagles goalie Trent Wiemken had 24 saves for the shutout, his third this season.
Davies rose to 5-0 overall, while Century dropped to 0-2 overall.
Fargo Davies 6, Bismarck 2
FARGO — Olivia Opheim had two goals and an assist to lead Davies to the win on Saturday at Southwest Youth Arena.
Davies’ Sandra Sampson and Olivia Beaton scored first-period goals and Opheim scored her first just 21 seconds into the second period for a 3-0 lead.
Bismarck’s Bauer Ackerman and Madison Cole scored in the second to pull within one, But Davies closed the game with a flurry.
Morgan Sauvageau scored the back-breaker, an unassisted shorthanded goal at 8:01 of the third to make it a two-goal game. Taylor Severson scored unassisted at 15:22 and Opheim got her second at 16:38.
Davies’ Taylor Klassen had two assists and goalie Noelle Lewis made 20 saves.
Davies improved to 2-0 overall and Bismarck is now 2-1 overall.
Minnetonka 8, Moorhead 2
MOORHEAD — Moorhead scored a pair of second-period goals to pull even, but Minnetonka eventually blew the game open for a dominant win at Moorhead Sports Center.
Trailing 2-0 early in the second period, Moorhead’s Olivia Dronen buried a power-play goal to cut it to 2-1, assisted by Bria Holm. Taylor Brueske then tied it for the Spuds, scoring on assists from Kate Kosobud and Dronen about three minutes into the second period.
It was all Minnetonka from that point, however. The Skippers scored two goals in the second period and then added four in the third frame. Grace Sadura led the way with a hat trick.
Spuds goalie Taylor Kressin tallied 33 saves.
Moorhead fell to 5-4 overall, while Minnetonka improved to 6-1.
Mandan 5, WF United 1
MANDAN, N.D. — Mandan cruised to victory over West Fargo United on Saturday.
United dropped to 2-2-1 overall, while Mandan improved to 2-1 overall.
