Spuds Nordic ski teams each place 3rd in Brainerd

BRAINERD, Minn. — The Moorhead boys and girls Nordic skiing teams each earned a third-place finish on Wednesday at the Brainerd invite at Northland Arboretum.

Moorhead's Zaine Braaten was the boys pursuit champion, finishing the 11-kilometer continuous pursuit in 38 minutes, 9.97 seconds to headline the Spuds' day. Moorhead's Trygve Rux and Max Rogers finished 11th and 12th, respectively. Rux clocked a 42:27.53 and Rogers had a time of 42:56.27. The Spuds boys tallied 366 team points. Brainerd finished first with 386.

On the girls side, Ava Nelson and Abbie Ishaug finished 4-5 to lead the Spuds. Nelson clocked a 51:08.57 to claim fourth, while Ishaug followed with a time of 51:23.29 for fifth place. Kennedy Olson finished ninth with a time of 51:55.44. Moorhead recorded 369 points as a team, 20 behind first-place Brainerd (389).
