WATCH: Moorhead's Gramer joins USA Hockey at Hlinka Gretzky Cup, another Nebraska recruit commits to NDSU
Moorhead hockey player Joe Gramer finds local connections in international competition. NDSU football gets its third Nebraska recruit for 2023
Joe Gramer has had a whirlwind last couple of months; getting Moorhead hockey to a state tournament and immediately going to the USHL to play for Des Moines.
Now the Spud is heading to Alberta to play for the USA in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup as one of 24 players representing the country. The tournament starts July 31st. One of his team leaders is Fargo North South coach Parker Metz, who gave Gramer an assist before the tryouts started last week in Buffalo.
"I had some flight problems on the way there so I didn't get in until about 11 and he was the one who came to pick me up at the airport," Gramer said.
"So i got to meet him there, I just heard this USA guy was coming to pick me up and he started talking about how he's from Fargo. I'm sure we'll get closer now that he's the leader for our team up in Red Deer."
A third prospect out of Nebraska is NDSU bound. Edge rusher Victor Isele has committed to the Bison. The 6'3 225-pounder had offers from South Dakota State and Northern Iowa.
He joins Omaha running back CharMar Brown and Norfolk defensive lineman Kade Pieper as Nebraska players committed in 2023.
