WEST FARGO — Andrew Wilhelm will return home from Las Vegas to West Fargo this week with a notable accomplishment under his belt.
The West Fargo Sheyenne junior golfer finished tied for eighth place in a field of 37 entrants from across the globe in the World Stars of Golf Junior Championship at Las Vegas' Angel Park Golf Club.
The invite-only tournament featured many Division I golf recruits in the Boys 15-18 division. Wilhelm, who is coming off of his junior season at Sheyenne and a second straight North Dakota Class A team state championship with the Mustangs, finished with a three-round total of 224 for 11-over par.
Wilhelm finished with individual round scores of 73-73-78. He entered Thursday's final round in fifth place and just three strokes back of the leaders at 4-over.
Kent Karlstrom of Rancho Mirage, Calif., won the competition with a 213 to finish even on the week.

Wilhelm was one of six area golfers invited to the competition thanks to his third-place finish in the Russ Newman Junior Invitational on June 12. Of the six — which consisted of the top three boys and girls finishers from the Russ Newman — he was the only one to make the trip.
Wilhelm finished in a three-way tie for eighth with Albéric Le Bos-Niclot of France and Jacob Cajita of the Philippines.
Benson, Voeller golf at high school nationals
Fargo Davies' Nora Benson and Abby Voeller concluded play at the National High School Golf Association's High School Golf National Invitational at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C., on Wednesday.
Benson, who will be a sophomore for the Eagles in the fall, finished with a three-round total of 279 for 65-over, good for a tie for 178th place.
Voeller — who is entering her junior year at Davies — wasn't far behind her teammate, shooting a 283 for 69-over and 181st overall.
Benson improved in each of her rounds, shooting a 100 on Day 1 before tallying a 91 on Tuesday and finishing with an 88 Wednesday.
Voeller's best round came on Day 2, shooting an 89. She notched a 96 on Monday and 98 in final-round play Wednesday.
