GRAND FORKS — Seventh-seeded West Fargo upset No. 4 seed Fargo Davies 2-1 on Saturday in an East Region boys hockey state tournament qualifier at Purpur Arena.

The Packers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Colten Bossert buried a power-play goal at the 2 minutes, 46 seconds mark of the first period. Caleb Roehrich and Brayden Jacobson assisted on the score. Roehrich and Jacobson then assisted Griffin Stahl for another Packers power-play strike at 16:46 of the second frame to extend the lead to 2-0.

Davies threatened late with Hunter Demers scoring at 13:20 of the third period, but that was the lone goal Packers goalie Brayden Johnson allowed. Johnson tallied 25 saves for the near shutout.

West Fargo (7-14) has won four of its last five games and will be the East No. 4 seed in the state tournament. The Packers are set to face West No. 1 Bismarck Century in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Bismarck.
