RedHawks hold off Goldeyes to take series

Fargo-Moorhead led by five runs through six innings but had to hang on for a win over Winnipeg on Wednesday.

FARGO — Fargo-Moorhead led by five runs through six innings but had to hold off Winnipeg for a 5-4 win on Wednesday and take two of three from the Goldeyes before 2,193 at Newman Outdoor Field.

The RedHawks have Thursday off before beginning a series at Chicago at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 19.

Against Winnipeg, the RedHawks scored all five of their runs in the third inning. Evan Alexander drew a lead-off walk, took second on a groundout and scored on Dillon Thomas' single. Correlle Prime followed with a two-run home run.

John Silviano singled, Ben Livorsi walked, and both scored on Sam Dexter's double to left.

Starter Tyler Grauer went seven innings to get the win. He allowed three runs on six hits and struck out two. He ran into trouble in seventh and eighth as the Goldeyes scored two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth.

Reliever R Aleaziz got the RedHawks out of the eighth but in the ninth, closer Reid Birlingmair gave up a run with two outs before getting a strikeout to end the game.

Dexter was 2 for 4 with two RBI and Thomas had two hits and an RBI.
