WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Fargo-Moorhead opened its 2022 American Association season with a nail-biting 10-9 win over Winnipeg on Friday.

The RedHawks and Goldeyes were tied 8-8 after seven innings but the RedHawks scored twice in the eighth when Sam Dexter singled and came around to score and Drew Ward hit a solo home run.

The Goldeyes loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth and scored a run on a wild pitch, but reliever Joe Jones got himself out of shaky ninth with a strikeout to end the game.

John Silviano had two hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs and Ward also had two hits. Luke Lind got the win in relief and Jones picked up the save.

The RedHawks and Winnipeg play the second game of a three-game weekend set at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 13.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
