North Dakota State has a new set of team doctors.

Effective Thursday, Sanford Health will replace Innovis Health as the team physicians.

The announcement, made Tuesday, was expected after Innovis announced several weeks ago that it would end its relationship with the Bison, effective today.

"We are excited for our partnership with Sanford Health," NDSU Athletic Director Gene Taylor said in a statement. He added: "The sports medicine coverage they provide, along with access to other medical services and cutting-edge research, will be of great benefit to our athletes."

Sanford Health, which merged with MeritCare - a name that will disappear in July - said NDSU athletes will have access to more than 800 physicians, as well as the National Institute for Athletic Health & Performance.

Headed by Dr. Michael Bergeron, the center specializes in research on hydration, nutrition, training and injury risk prevention.

As reported earlier by The Forum, Sanford plans a new athletic performance enhancement center near its planned wellness center at the Urban Plains development in southwest Fargo.
