FARGO - Given it was down 1-0 early in the second half, the Fargo Shanley girls soccer team found some satisfaction in recovering for a tie.
Shanley played to a 1-1 Eastern Dakota Conference draw with Fargo North on Tuesday at Sid Cichy Stadium.
"There was plenty of time left after they scored," Shanley head coach Kevin Roos said. "We had plenty of chances and finally got one of them in. It would have been nice to get another one, but being that we were down 1-0, we'll take the tie."
Shanley (4-2-1, 4-1-1) and North (1-1-2, 1-0-2) each earn a point in the conference standings with the tie. The two teams were scoreless at halftime.
"Getting a tie here is a small victory for us," North first-year head coach Michelle Crary said.

Tianna Larson got the Spartans on the board first, scoring a goal 48 minutes, two seconds into the match.
Larson, a senior forward, tapped in the go-ahead goal in traffic after teammate Carly Bosch booted a high shot from 20 yards out causing Shanley goalkeeper Jenna Zaeske to move up in the box.
Zaeske was unable to get a hand on the attempt and the ball eventually found the foot of Larson.
"Shanley is a great team, but we came into the match thinking we could get a win," Crary said. "We knew 1-0 probably wasn't going to be enough, but that's all we could get. It was a really good match.
Senior forward Anna Reinholz scored the equalizer for the Deacons.
Reinholz's goal came 61:01 into the match, but it was the only scoring chance Shanley cashed in on.
The Deacons had two quality scoring chances come up empty in the final four minutes of the first half, including a shot from sophomore Sarah Jacobson that hit the cross bar 29 seconds prior to halftime.
Shanley, who sits in first place in the EDC with 13 points, also had a handful of chances in the second half fall short.

"The way we attacked in the second half, it would have been nice to get the three points," Roos said. "But North is a good team and we'll have to a regroup."
