Bison softball team heading to Arizona for NCAA Tournament
FARGO—North Dakota State's softball team will be heading to Tucson, Arizona to play in its ninth NCAA Tournament.
The Bison, fresh off a fifth straight Summit League tournament championship, found out Sunday night it will play Mississippi State at 8 p.m. Friday in the Tucson Regional—the same place they played in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
The Bison are 33-17 overall while Mississippi State is 36-21 overall. No. 14-seed and regional host Arizona (40-14) will play St. Francis, Pa. (39-17).
The Bison have a 9-16 record in the NCAA Tournament, including winning the Oklahoma Regional in 2009. Here is a look at how the Bison have fared in their previous eight NCAA Tournaments:
2017—At Norman, Okla: 3-2 win over eventual national champion Oklahoma, 2-1 loss to Tulsa, 10-2 loss to Oklahoma.
2016-- At Seattle: 7-2 loss to Minnesota, 5-2 win over Weber State, 7-5 loss to Minnesota.
2015—At Eugene, Oregon: 4-0 win over Fresno State, 4-3 loss to Oregon, 7-0 win over Brigham Young, 6-1 loss to Oregon.
2014—At Minneapolis: 5-2 win over Auburn, 4-1 loss to Minnesota, 1-0 loss to Auburn.
2012—At Tucson, Ariz.: 11-0 loss to Arizona, 9-7 win over Hawaii, 8-4 loss to Notre Dame.
2011—At Tempe, Ariz: 10-0 loss to Arizona State, 5-4 loss to San Deigo.
2010—At Seattle: 3-0 loss to Washington, 5-1 loss to Nebraska.
2009—At Norman, Okla.: 1-0 win over Oklahoma, 3-2 win over Tulsa, 4-1 win over Tulsa. Super Regional at Tempe, Ariz.: 3-0 loss to Arizona State, 11-0 loss to Arizona State.
