MOORHEAD — St. Benedict tallied victories of 2-0 and 13-3 over Concordia in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.
Game 1 was a pitchers' duel with two total hits. Cobbers starter Megan Gavin (4-5) and St. Ben's starter Elly Novak (5-0) each tossed complete-game one-hitters. Gavin surrendered two unearned runs with two walks and 13 strikeouts. Novak tallied two walks and 12 strikeouts. Riley Irmen tallied the lone Cobbers' hit. St. Ben's scored both its runs in the sixth inning and took advantage of two Cobbers errors.
Game 2 began in an entirely different fashion, as St. Ben's scored six runs in the top of the first inning and Concordia plated two in the home half of the first. Riley Bergstrom scored a run in the first inning and belted a solo home run in the fifth inning to pace the Cobbers. Amy Quast and Valerie Kolastad each tallied two hits.
Concordia (12-8, 0-2 MIAC) is scheduled to be back in action with a home doubleheader against Carleton on Wednesday.
