MOORHEAD — Minnesota State Moorhead forced a split with Bemidji State, winning 2-1 after losing the opener of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference softball doubleheader Sunday 7-4.
In Game 1, the Beavers (8-18) scored four runs in the third inning thanks to Stephi Dullum's RBI double, and Ashley Herold's two-run single. Miah Hartvigsen totaled three hits and two RBIs to pace the Dragons.
A pitcher's dual ensued in Game 2, with Kaidron McClafferty and Anna Lang dominating from the mound. Trailing 1-0, Hartvigsen drove home MSUM's first run, while Ally Helgoe's single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Dragons the walk-off winner. Lang allowed just one run off four hits through eight innings pitched for MSUM.
MSUM (6-20) hosts Southwest Minnesota State for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17.
