Fargo South senior Paige Schroeder serves as captain of her softball and basketball teams. She's played sports since she was a kid growing up, but there's something she's wanted to do for even longer.

“Since a really young age I’ve always said that i wanted to go into the military or do something with helping people," said Schroeder. "I just feel like I can make a big impact and this is my best way of doing it. “

When Schroeder graduates from Fargo South this spring, she will almost immediately join the Air National Guard.

"One of my mom's best friends growing up, he was in the air guard, so he really helped me with the process and guided me along the way," she said. "I leave June 29, so I'll leave for basic."

For now Schroeder plans to fulfill her contract, but hasn't ruled out serving longterm.

"My contract with the guard is for six years, so I'm gonna try to get through school and decide, but I think I might try to do 20 years."
