FARGO — An eight-run sixth inning put game two away and gave Valley City a sweep of Fargo North in a doubleheader on Monday.

The Hi Liners' big inning late produced a 14-1 win in six innings in the second game. In the first game, Valley City scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning and held on to defeat North 6-3.

In game one, the Hi Liners' rally started with two outs in the top of the eighth. Emma Meilke walked, stole second and scored on a North error. Emma Langemo then singled in a run and the third run scored on a passed ball.

Valley City pitcher Hailey Schaefer struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth. She gave up one earned run in eight innings and struck out 13. She also had two hits and drove in a run.

North pitcher Ava Kalbrener took a tough loss, allowing just two earned runs in eight innings while striking out 19. Kalbrener also had three hits. Aubrey King had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs, Kessa Thompson had two hits and Sami Sanford doubled and drove in a run.

In game two, Lexi Leroux was a single shy of hitting for the cycle. She doubled, tripled and hit a two-run inside-the-park homer, finishing with four RBI. Hailey Thoreson was 4-for-4 and Hailey Schaefer doubled, drove in four runs and scored four. Bailey Leroux was 2-for-3 with a triple and she drove in two runs. Autumn McGough got the win, allowing a run on six hits and striking out seven.
