MINNEAPOLIS — Concordia downed Augsburg 4-2 and lost 9-1 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

With the Cobbers' win in the opener, they clinched a spot in the MIAC playoffs for the first time in program history.

In Game 1, Concordia (21-19, 9-13 MIAC) took advantage of several Augsburg mishaps. Valerie Kolstad scored for the Cobbers on a wild pitch in the second inning, and then again on a passed ball in the fourth. Later in the fourth inning, Landry Maragos scored on a wild pitch and Ellie Tofteland crossed home plate as the result of a throwing error. Along with the two runs scored, Kolstad hit a double to lead Concordia's offense.

Megan Gavin (9-10) earned the victory in Game 1. She surrendered two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts. She finished the regular season with a 1.78 ERA and 208 strikeouts — the second-most in the conference as of Tuesday evening.

Gavin went 2-for-2 with an RBI single to lead Concordia in Game 2.
